A few weekends ago, I had the pleasure of taking a mini-vacation to Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut with my friend Karina! We had been itching for a getaway but wanted to make sure it was nearby & safe of course! Foxwoods was the perfect destination because it was just a short 2.5-hour train ride from NYC and there are a ton of restaurants, activities, and shopping to do. Plus, they are doing the MOST when it comes to safety measures, which is SO important these days.
We headed out of NYC on Friday afternoon and arrived at Foxwoods around 5 pm. Upon arrival, we were truly in awe of the resort, and all it had to offer. Low key, it’s HUGE. They have a ton of restaurants to choose from – and I’m talking as fancy as David Burke, to as casual as Burger King. There’s really something for everyone in every budget which we loved. The first night, we were craving Mexican, so we hit up Scorpion Bar. They had the BEST margaritas and tacos – highly recommend the jalapeño margarita if you’re into spicy! We felt super comfortable eating there because we had our own booth that was properly distanced from other parties, all the employees wore masks, and it was super clean. You can even sit at the bar, as they have installed plexiglass between every two seats to help protect the patrons!
After dinner, we decided to check out High Rollers, which is basically their super upscale version of a bowling alley. We got our own lane, which featured very sleek booths to relax until it’s your turn. There were chandeliers throughout the establishment which gave it such a luxe feel. You can also order food and drinks while you bowl, which is super nice too. I treated myself to one of their gimlets and a huge giant pretzel. All of their food is super shareable which is perfect if you’re going with a group of close friends/family that you’re comfortable sharing with!
We decided to turn in early so we could make the most of the next day! After a very refreshing night’s sleep in the king-size bed in our room, we headed down to Veranda Café for an American-style breakfast. Waffles, eggs, bacon, sausage – you name it – they got it & it was so delish.
We were looking forward to zip-lining that afternoon, but unfortunately, the winds were too high, so we are saving that activity for next time! Luckily, there are so many other things to do at the resort, and of course, being us, we chose to shop 😉 Foxwoods is home of the Tanger Outlets which is basically a shopaholics dream. I’m talking everything from Coach to Calvin Klein to H&M. We treated ourselves to a mini shopping spree, all while getting some steps in of course (like I said it’s huge!!). After burning through our wallets and some calories, we decided to reward ourselves with lunch at the Sugar Factory, which is just one of the many famous restaurants available at Foxwoods. They seriously have the craziest, most Instagrammable drinks – like they are actually smoking. And despite their name, they have some delicious savory food options as well.
Following lunch, we decided to give the slots at the casino a try. It was super fun, and we really appreciated how the staff was so dedicated to keeping everything clean and making sure everyone was properly distanced. There was space between every other machine, and they also had plexiglass installed for more interactive games like roulette. After trying our luck at the casino, we got ready for our dinner at Caputo Trattoria. They had an amazing selection of Italian food & a huge wine list. I personally went for the Shrimp Scampi Fettuccine which was amazing and Karina had the steak which she loved. We ended the night with champagne at David Burke and hit up the slots one last time!
The next day was time for us to head back to NYC. Reflecting on our trip, we really felt like we had been there longer than just the weekend! We truly experienced so much while we were there that it felt like it had been a week-long vacation. If you’ve been looking for a local getaway I highly recommend booking a trip to Foxwoods Resort Casino. No matter whether you’re looking to gamble, shop, dine, or even bowl, Foxwoods has it all under one roof! And we felt incredibly safe the entire time! They’re even running some daily deals on activities so you can make any day feel like a daycation – make sure to check them out here!
